A journey of self-discovery

Between the lights of New York and the soul of Rome

Can a high-speed city like New York and an eternal city like Rome really help us work on ourselves? During my recent trip, I had a unique experience that I feel the need to share with those who will have the pleasure of reading this article.

New York: a whirlwind of opportunities

The Big Apple welcomed me with its frenetic pace and contagious energy. Every corner of this city is an opportunity, an invitation to dare and chase your dreams.

Trust in New York is intuitive, it comes immediately, without defensive barriers at least until proven otherwise, and it’s like a light that turns on, giving an extraordinary charge. In the city that never sleeps, everything is organized to favor a Ferrari-mode speed in a total of 835 square kilometers, with skyscrapers that challenge the sky, but keeping up with the pace, the costs, the necessary energy is not for everyone.

New York constantly gives you the opportunity to start over, even after a failure, which in the US is seen as an opportunity for a new beginning, possible only if you are able to stop and discover your vision through a strong listening process!

In New York, my coaching work is well-known and appreciated: people’s enthusiasm for disruptive tools, techniques, and methodologies has gently overwhelmed me, and I’ve experienced it as a reward for 25 years of professional activity in which I’ve kept a very New York-like pace in terms of waking up at dawn, constant martial arts training, high eustress work (beneficial stress), where the most evident indicator is that time has always literally flown by. In this metropolis, my work is well-paid, as is the high cost of living.

New York kindness is constantly accompanied by a healthy, appropriate distance that is often confused with false cordiality. There is a strong focus on taking care of the body, you see gyms everywhere, although the risk of having a too-adrenalized lifestyle is very high, if not integrated with a constant and deep listening work that allows you to remember that the true balance of a very fast-moving machine lies in knowing how to stop whenever necessary.

Rome: a return to the origins

Rome enveloped me with its ancient history and relaxed atmosphere. Walking through its streets, I felt a deep sense of peace and connection to my roots.

This city invited me to slow down, pay attention to details, and experience the rejuvenating energy of authentic relationships.

Rome teaches that serenity is not only found in achieving great goals but also in appreciating every single moment of life. My coaching work in Rome is valued, but in a more gradual way compared to New York, like a musical crescendo. Trust is gained progressively, based on concreteness, simplicity, humility, and a bit of healthy humor, which decisively helps to not take anything too seriously.

Rome has a significantly lower cost of living compared to New York: for example, you can eat like a king at much lower costs. People’s pure, genuine, clear eyes are for me a gift that can only come from those who know how to stop when necessary!

The perfect contrast: Yin and Yang

New York and Rome represent the two sides of the same coin: Yin and Yang. The former, dynamic and future-oriented,embodies the Yang energy, while the latter, more introspective and tied to traditions, represents Yin.

  • New York (Yang): ambition, competitiveness, innovation, efficiency, individualism.
  • Rome (Yin): history, tradition, human relationships, quality of life, spirituality.

Finding one's balance

Both cities have taught me invaluable lessons that I have integrated into my personal growth journey, where it is fundamental to find a balance between our visions and our needs, between the desire to emerge and the need to cultivate meaningful relationships, between the ability to sacrifice giving everything and remembering that rest is part of training in order to regenerate the body and be ready for the next challenge.
